Making Sense of the Patient Experience: Partnering with Patients and Families
Our 2011 Hot Talks on Health speaker Barbara Balik shared her knowledge and stories about how to improve the patient-family experience, drawing on work helping healthcare organizations shift their thinking, policies, practices — and relationships with patients and families – to deliver patient-centred care. The shift from “doing to” to “doing for” patients must move to working with patients and families as equal partners in decision-making about their care, she said. This message resonated with the audience, including many with the responsibility under the Excellent Care for All Act to advance patient-centred care.
